There are a variety of types of gutters including zinc, finlock, seamless, stainless steel, UPVC, and cast iron. However we will only be cover the last three.
Cast Iron:
Cast iron allowed eaves gutters to swiftly be mass-produced due to the fact that they were rigid and non-porous while lead could only be used as a liner within timber gutters. Also, the installation was a single process and didn’t require heat. Cast iron gutters are still specified for restoration work in conservation areas, but are commonly replaced with cast aluminum made to the same profile.
Stainless Steel:
High quality stainless steel guttering systems are available for homes as well as many commercial projects. The main advantages of stainless steel is its durability, corrosion-resistance, ease of cleaning, and superior aesthetics. When compared to concrete or wood, a stainless steel gutter will undergo non-negligible cycles of thermal expansion and contraction as the temperature changes. However, if allowance for this movement is not accounted for during installation, there can potentially be deformation of the gutter, which may lead to improper drainage of the gutter system.
UPVC:
In the UK domestic architecture, guttering is frequently made from UPVC sections. The very first PVC pipes were used in the 1930s for sanitary drainage systems. The first pressurized plastic water pipes were installed in the Netherlands in the 1950s.
